OBITUARY -  BUKKENBURG  DISNEY

1993    -  2004

Aan Andries, ons is baie hartseer dat jy jou vriend verloor het, ons het groot drome vir hom gehad, maar hy het besluit om daar by jou op die plaas te bly.

They say only the good die young. Yes – so it seems.

Disney passed away suddenly on July 3^rd 2004 at the young age of 10 years. He was found dead in the field at Bukkenburg. His short but very successful showing career  reads as follows:

            2001 – Reserve Champion –Western Cape Regional Championship

            2002  - SA Champion Stallion, Section C & D – Bloemfontein

            2002  - Reserve Supreme Champion Section C & D – Bloemfontein

2003    - SA Champion Stallion  Section C & D – Bloemfontein

2003 -  Supreme Champion Section C & D – Bloemfontein

2004    -  Reserve Champion Stallion Section C & D – Bloemfontein

Those were his only shows in hand, he also won and was placed in single harness.

At stud he produced foals with exceptional action, good strong foals that could all move like a good cob should. He was particularly strong in his hind movement.

He did not have very many foals in his short career, only 11 purebred, there being 6 colts and 5 fillies. There are 3 mares due to foal to him this spring, all daughters of Fronarth Gwenllian 11.

Disney was by Persie Nimrod out of Bukkenburg Gerda (by Penllwynuchel Taran), who is one of very few Penllwynuchel Taran mares in South Africa. She has only had 5 foals herself, but is in foal this year to her half brother Bukkenburg Taran.

We shall miss Disney more than we realised, he was always part of our team going to shows, doing parades just as he did at the Albertinia centenary festival etc.
