Northern Region Welsh Regional Championships 2006
We decided to take on the Cobs in the Northern Region. However, we were bitterly disappointed with the show.
The Northern Region has 175 members whilst the Western Cape has but 60. In the in-hand breed classes. the Northern Region was able to muster only a total of 10 Welsh Mountain Ponies in ALL their classes with 8 Cobs, also in all the classes. In contrast to this the Western Cape had 13 Welsh Mountain Pony mares in one class only while we had 8 cobs in total. The apathy of the Northern members is self evident.
In the 2006 Journal there is a challenge to members as follows:- "Come on members, we know of many animals close to show venues that have not been seen for years. Let's put some life into the show ring with large classes". Are Northern Region members afraid of competition?
We took only two cobs, Bukkenburg Gwenllan in the Mare class and Danaway The Sting in the Stallion class.
We won the mare class with Gwenllan and The Sting won the stallion class and was also the Supreme Champion Cob. Not bad going for him travelling some 1500km to Eaton Farm (and naturally back again). We wish we had so many shows on our doorstep. Members in the Northern Region are obviously spoiled.
