It was with great expectation that we entered the Showgrounds of the Royal Welsh Agricultural Showgrounds at Builth Wells on Monday July 19, to attend the Royal Welsh Centenary Show.  We were not disappointed.  The weather also did not let us down; cool weather all week with only a few light drizzles now and again.

Records were set in all sections and these also in the Welsh Pony and Cob classes where no fewer than 1762 entries had been received; 617 A’s, 283 B’s, 334 C’s and 528 D’s.  This being such a milestone in the life of the Society, it was pleasing to learn that record attendances were also achieved.

The Official Opening

The show was opened on Monday by HRH the Prince of Wales who was also the President of the Show for 2004. He also unveiled the Centenary Sculpture specially commissioned for the centenary and consisting of a Welsh Shepherd, his dog and a sheep. This is situated handily at the International Visitor’s Pavilion.
