We were particularly interested in the Cobs and all the classes for section D were videod.  However, some section A champions are also recorded. The full results of the prize winners , however, are reflected in the new website of the RWAS  at http://www.rwas.co.uk/award24frame.htm and the Welsh Pony and Cob in-hand results are classes 1 to 119 followed by the ridden classes.  Once again Gail and Arthur Thomson of the USA have kindly agreed to let us use their photographs of the prize winners. Some of these are shown below but you are encouraged to view many more winners under their excellent website http://www.gayfieldswelshponies.com/news/royalwelsh2004.html

The 12 year old broodmare who was also the Champion Mountain pony  and the Tom and Sprightly Cup winner - Friars Goldilocks (Cefn Fedw Golden Glory x Friars Golden Charm)

Section B – Judged by Mr Dewi Evans of Hilin Stud

Here it was the Champion broodmare Welsh Pony who ran away with the laurels by not only being the Reserve Champion to the Tom and Sprightly Cup winner Friars Goldilocks above, but was also awarded the Cuddy Supreme in hand Championship as well as the Royal Welsh Supreme in-hand Championship.  She is Mintfield Songthrush (Cwrt-y-Cadno Cadfridog x Cottrell Sunflower) with the reserve Welsh Pony being Eyarth Windflower (Eyarth Celebration x Eyarth Cordelia).

Section C – Judged by Mr William Lloyd of Geler Stud

Both the Champion Welsh Pony of Cob Type and the Reserve had the same sire, Nebo Bouncer.  The Champion was the Male Champion Tremymor Sportsman (Nebo Bouncer x Tremymor Lucky Charm) while the Reserve Champion was the 8yo+ broodmare Hafodyrynys Cariad (Nebo Bouncer x Poundy Carys).  Tremymor Sportsman was also Reserve to the Welsh Pony Champion in both the Cuddy Supreme in Hand as well as the Royal Welsh Supreme in Hand

Section D – Judged by Mr Keith Spenser of Felinmor Stud

It was the 14 year old Stallion Blaengwen Brenin (Pompren Prince Hal x Synod Ruby Anne) who was not only the Champion Cob Stallion but also the Male Cob Champion. He was awarded the George Prince of Wales cup

The Reserve was the 11 year old Broodmare Pantanamlwg Free Gift (Nebo Daniel x Pantanamlwg Lynnette)

Champion Sire It was interesting to note that the Champion Sire of the show was Trevallion Harry (sire of Danaway The Sting) with the reserve being Danaway Tango both owned by the Attrell family of the Danaway Stud.

Young Handler

No competition for in-hand can be complete without recognising the handlers, especially the young handlers. The award this year went to David Bethell who showed Polaris Elmar (Polaris Fagan x Polaris Elsie) who was the Welsh Pony male champion. Here David is being congratulated by Judge Dewi Evans.

This show was of particular interest to us in that our President Sue Cook had the honour of being invited to judge the Leading Rein and First Ridden classes on the Wednesday afternoon. Also attending the show from South Africa were Digby and Lindi Donaldson and Jack Gilfillan.

One of the benefits of such a show is to renew international acquaintances and to learn about what is happening in the societies and the ponies around the world.
